Discussions have been going on for months about what will happen next with the Heiligenblut ski area. Now the mountain railway operators have come to a decision…
Does the Fleissbahn run in Heiligenblut or not? Will the ski area remain open on a limited basis or will there be no lifts at all? Until now it was not clear what the future of the mountain railways in Heiligenblut would be.
As reported, the ski area has too few beds, the utilization of the ski area is too low and continuing to operate the lifts to this extent would not be profitable, it was said last winter. That’s why owners have spoken out in favor of limited operations.
For the state of Carinthia and the mayor, however, this was not the case. “This area has so much potential, it must not die out,” everyone agreed and proposed to transfer the cable cars to a group of interested parties. After months of discussions and debates about how the operators Schröcksnadel and Schmidl will proceed, a final result should finally have been reached.
Because in March they wanted to continue to operate the railways independently – but in a limited form. They have now decided to continue the business together with the entrepreneurs Thomas Seitlinger and Johannes Böck.
New operators on board
“The first goal of winter and summer tourism should be to quickly provide economic and structural impulses, to offer accommodation in sufficient numbers and quality and, above all, to increase marketing activities in the direction of mountain railways and skiing,” everyone agrees . “Especially in the hotel sector, the new partners of the Großglockner mountain railways will fully contribute their know-how and their implementation strength.”
“This also requires joint efforts, economic and structural incentives from the community, the region and the State of Carinthia to sustainably secure the mountain railways and the ski area, as well as tourism in the region in general,” said those responsible. The existing and new owners plan to work with leaders at local, regional and state levels in the coming months to map out the direction in which they can move forward.
Hard job secured
And thus the continued operation of the busy railway line and employment for the coming season have been secured.
