After already reporting the crime, the manager of the Medusa Beach Club in Mallorca, which collapsed a month ago, has now been arrested. According to Spanish media, it concerns the Austrian Christian A. He is accused of manslaughter by negligence.
Four people were killed, including two tourists from Germany, in the dramatic collapse of the bar in Playa del Palma. 16 people were injured.
Serious construction errors discovered
The investigation revealed serious construction errors and there would no longer have been a permit for the collapsed terrace. According to the German-language “Mallorca Magazin”, Christian A. was taken to a police station and his fingerprints were taken. He will then be brought to trial.
After the night of the accident, A. commented on the collapse in a press release. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stressed: “We will do everything in our power and work with the authorities to understand everything that happened. We would like to sincerely thank the emergency services for their rapid intervention.”

Used to be a Mexican restaurant
In 2018, the two Austrian bar owners, Christian and Sandra A., opened a Mexican restaurant called Tex Mex. But in 2021 they decided to change the concept and started the Medusa Beach Club.
In addition, they may have ignored or failed to correct previous structural violations and expanded the restaurant with a terrace. It is currently unknown whether a complaint will also be filed against A’s wife.
