Horror trip for fans – train arrived late: Austria – Poland match missed

Date:

Football fans from Burgenland had a horror trip on their train journey to Berlin. They didn’t even make it to the Olympic Stadium. Two fathers and their daughters are bitterly disappointed.

Austria fans face tough conditions. Already at the start of the European Championship match against France, the overwhelmed Deutsche Bahn had spoiled the joy of playing for hundreds of football fans. Most supporters at least reached the stadium in Düsseldorf, even though they were up to 70 minutes late.

By train to Berlin
Dozens of Austrian fans had it even worse in the match against Poland. In the middle of all this are two colleagues from the Oberpullendorf district with their daughters, both nine years old. At 4 o’clock in the morning they started their journey by car to Vienna’s main station. Train departure at 5:28 am, scheduled arrival in Berlin at 2:57 pm.

Delay from the start
The first train left 45 minutes late – the connecting train in Salzburg was missed. “Then we took the Bavarian regional train to Munich. When we arrived at 11:25 am, we discovered that our ICE train 1110 to Berlin had not yet departed. “We were still happy that we had taken the train,” says Reinhard B.

“The train stopped unexpectedly and simply stopped moving”
The fathers and their daughters received the nasty surprise around 3:30 p.m. Suddenly the train stopped in Bitterfeld, 45 minutes from Berlin. “There was no information, only free bottled water as an excuse,” says B.

Around 5:30 p.m., when many tears were already being shed among the young fans, Deutsche Bahn ‘stuffed’ all passengers onto a train that headed to Berlin via a regional train route. Too little space, most fans huddled on the floor.

Fans bitterly disappointed
Wrong information over and over again, no internet reception to watch the game that had started long ago. When the train arrived at 9:22 p.m., all nerves were at an end. Missed game! Grotesk: When we called Deutsche Bahn they said: “Your train is running!” Later, storm damage to the overhead lines was the official explanation for the series of failures. “An apology,” was the comment from the bitterly disappointed fans.
