A 52-year-old was indicted at the Innsbruck Regional Court on Tuesday on charges of serious commercial fraud. He is said to have only simulated an eye problem and, among other things, to have received a disability pension. Now an appraiser is needed.
The Serb, who lives in Innsbruck, and his lawyer vehemently and at times emotionally denied the fraud: “I suffer from glaucoma, a serious eye disease that can lead to blindness!”
More than 110,000 euros paid out
The public prosecutor accused the suspect of providing false information during investigations and of wrongly receiving a disability pension, nursing allowance and mobility allowance (more than 110,000 euros).
The lawyer spoke of an ‘enormous health damage’, but his client ‘still does a little cleaning work’ in addition to his disability pension. But he definitely can’t see much anymore, so he’s just making the best of it.
Suspect becomes emotional
The former professional driver emphasized loudly and emotionally: “I have been in Austria for forty years and have never been guilty of anything.” Now an expert must examine the eye problem.
