The bodies of dozens of civilians are said to have been found in two recaptured Ukrainian cities. The attorney general of the country announced this on Tuesday. Among the fatalities was a one-year-old child who was buried with his entire family.
In total there are said to be at least 134 bodies. “Numerous mass graves have been discovered in the liberated cities of Sviatohirsk and Lyman,” the prosecutor general’s office in Kiev said on Tuesday. A child of about a year old is said to have been buried in Lyman along with his entire family.
Kiev: “Violent Death”
As in previous months, the attorney general spoke of signs of a “violent death”. 78 bodies are said to have been exhumed again by order of the authorities for examination.
Hundreds of civilian graves were not found in Izyum until September. According to Ukrainian sources, the bodies often showed signs of torture. To this day, the Kremlin denies that Russian troops are responsible for the crimes in Izyum and other places. The Ukrainian army had recently recaptured large areas occupied by Russia in a counter-offensive. These include the two cities of Swatohirsk and Lyman in the Donetsk region in the east of the country.
