This year, this ‘magic number’ will probably be exceeded for the first time: in some tents, thirsty Oktoberfest visitors will have to pay at least 15 euros for a liter of barley. Munich innkeepers and media find this price quite reasonable.
“O’zapft is!” – this exclamation applies especially to the wallets of visitors to this year’s Oktoberfest in Munich. Because the price of a beer will exceed 15 euros for the first time this year. As the Munich newspaper Merkur writes, several tents will cross this border.
At Paulaner, Hacker, Schützenfestzelt and Bräurosl you have to spend at least 15 euros this year. In Schottenhamel, on the other hand, you have to stay just above the new maximum price – here the measure should cost 14.95 euros.

The city monitors liquor prices for extortion
Drink prices are generally set by the tent operators. These are submitted to the city and checked whether the ideas fit. This also applies to non-alcoholic drinks, which aren’t exactly cheap either. In 2023 there were free drinking water fountains for the first time; this year the number is even expected to double.

The landlords justify the price increases with higher wages and higher construction costs. “We have reduced the price as much as possible. “We actually needed an even higher one,” a tent operator explained to the Munich newspaper “tz”. Visitors are apparently not deterred by the ridiculous prices: last year’s Oktoberfest was the most successful of all time with 7.2 million visitors.
Münchner Zeitung: Beer is “not that expensive”
Beer prices at Oktoberfest are up for debate every year. As the “tz” writes, “this is not that expensive considering the effort it takes.” The barley juice is brewed especially for the event. Last year, price increases remained in line with general inflation in Germany at an average of 6.1 percent. Moreover, visitors to the Oktoberfest would get more alcohol for their money: the alcohol content is around six percent, making it stronger than normal beer.
