The heat wave has long since arrived in Austria with temperatures above 34 degrees. Weather experts even call it the hottest day of the year so far. But it will get even hotter, because the 35 degree limit can still be exceeded in Vienna on Saturday afternoon. Plenty of sunshine and midsummer conditions remain in the rest of the country.
The weekend offers perfect swimming weather for young and old. Even in the mountains we can expect high summer temperatures. On the Feuerkogel at almost 1,600 meters altitude it can get up to 26 degrees. There will be no short cooling down on Sunday night, as it will remain mostly warm and sunny throughout Austria on Sunday. For example, up to 34 degrees are expected at the Niedersiedler See.
No new Austrian record
However, the temperatures are still far from the previous Austrian record. The hottest maximum ever measured in Austria was on August 8, 2013 in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg with 40.5 degrees.
There is cooling coming
But the extreme heat wave will be followed just in time for the turn of the month by a cold front from the west, which will cause many rain and thunderstorms. The wind is weak to moderate from west to north. The temperatures are also between 18 and 25 degrees at most. It cools down the most in the south of the country.
