A 19-month-old boy fell from a window on the third floor of an apartment building in Schwechat (Bruck an der Leitha district) on Saturday afternoon.
The toddler was seriously injured and, after receiving emergency medical care, was flown by helicopter to Vienna General Hospital. The Lower Austrian State Police said the boy died in the evening hours. The investigation into the circumstances was still ongoing.
Fell twelve meters
The boy probably fell in an unnoticed moment from a height of about twelve meters. The cause of the window fall shortly after 15:00 was initially unknown.
According to a police spokesperson, as is customary in such cases, an investigation is being conducted into manslaughter due to negligence.
