After the Austrian football team won the group and defeated the Netherlands, European Championship fever raged throughout the country. So it is no wonder that a 26-year-old Tyrolean wanted to watch the round of 16 match against Turkey live in the stadium. But while looking for tickets he fell for a scammer.
The young man was on a social media platform on Thursday looking for tickets for the European Championship match between Austria and Turkey next Tuesday. “He became aware of an advertisement and contacted the unknown provider via an SMS service,” the police said.
Reported to the police
After several written and telephone correspondence, the 26-year-old eventually transferred several hundred euros for three promised tickets. After the man did not receive the tickets he had already paid for, he reported the matter to the police.
