Threatened with terror – Magdeburg: Taleb A. involved in 110 incidents

Date:

German security authorities have dealt with the suspected attacker from Magdeburg more often than previously known. A chronology lists a total of 110 incidents. The federal authorities and states have now passed on the data to the Federal Criminal Police.

Almost four weeks after the death journey from Magdeburg, it is becoming increasingly clear how regularly the responsible authorities have dealt with the later suspected murderer over the years. At the end of December, the Home Commission reported 80 incidents, but the number now stands at 110.

For example, the ministry document shows that the authorities of Saudi Arabia contacted the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution on November 27, 2023. They reported a message from their citizen Taleb A. on his X account. The suspect wrote that something big was going to happen in Germany. However, German authorities assessed Taleb A’s message as a “non-specific threat due to a lack of concrete information” and asked for further guidance if any were to follow.

There was already a threat of a terrorist attack
Two months before the psychiatrist’s attack, the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution again received mail from Saudi Arabia. They recalled their communication from November 2023 and asked for information about what measures had been taken. This letter was forwarded to the Federal Intelligence Service (BND).

The now 50-year-old repeatedly came to the attention of the authorities due to massive threats of violence. In April 2013, A. argued with the medical association about his admission to the specialist examination and threatened a terrorist attack. He was sentenced to a fine of 900 euros at the time. He also threatened to take revenge on a Saudi Arabian ambassador and shoot two judges who had treated him unfairly.

Confusing accusations made
In 2017, he allegedly kissed a woman against her will and placed her on his lap. He appeared publicly as an activist who wanted to help women flee Saudi Arabia. The accusations he made to his alleged opponents and to the German authorities were sometimes confusing. It was about espionage and violation of the confidentiality of letters.

In total, at least six federal states and federal authorities were involved in Taleb A. These include Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, North Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin, Hamburg and Bavaria. Information about possible crimes also came from Britain and Kuwait. In the years before the attack, well over a dozen investigations were conducted against the alleged perpetrator, most of which were dropped (see video above).

Faeser: “No common grid”
The perpetrator does not fit into a general picture, said German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser. In Taleb A. it is said that hatred of Germany comes from hatred of his homeland. He is a proponent of conspiracy theories about the ‘Islamization’ of Germany.

“The investigation into the terrible attack in Magdeburg is still in its early stages. After presenting the chronology, we have more rather than fewer questions,” said Green MP Konstantin von Notz. An investigative committee will now examine these questions. “Why the dangerousness of the perpetrator was not recognized as things stand now – despite numerous indications” needs to be clarified.

As reported, Taleb A. allegedly drove into the Christmas market in Magdeburg in a car on December 20, 2024. Six people were killed and 300 were injured. He’s in a prison.
