Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) has announced further deportations to Syria. There will be “no mass displays”, but “criminals and dangers must be pushed consistently,” he said on Monday in Vienna (see video above).
That day he met his Belgian counterpart Anneleen von Bossuyt. She reported that the deportation of Syrians in her country was currently being discussed. “There is no place in our companies for illegal criminals,” the minister said. There is a responsibility for the “safety of our citizens”. However, the question must be resolved at EU level.
The Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) of Austria, together with EU partners such as Belgium, wants to enforce a “strict, difficult course” in asylum policy and the implementation of the EU migration pact. “Similar nations strain our systems,” he said, referring to Afghans, among other things on Afghans.
Syrian deported
Austria was officially the first EU country at the beginning of July to deport a criminal from Syria. After decades, Karner visited the new Syrian rulers of a police and intelligence regime, together with his former German counterpart Nancy Faeser.
The deportee Syrian has now been transferred to the authorities in his country. Since then the man misses every trail. He may have been custody, said Sebastian Frik of the Deserting and Refugee Advice. Karner said on Monday that he assumed that the authorities and courts in Austria had acted correctly. That is why he also adheres to further deportations.
