Since the US Supreme Court ruled that abortion is no longer allowed with immediate effect, there have been waves of protest worldwide. Is the new abortion ban a fight against women? Katia Wagner will talk about this with her guests on krone.tv on Wednesday from 8.15 pm!
Some states in the US have already responded to the Supreme Court ruling and amended their laws. In Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisiana, abortions are now banned — even in cases of rape or incest.
Donald Trump: “God has decided”
The ban came just a day after the same court ruled that carrying guns in public is a “fundamental right” and should not be restricted. This is made possible by the composition of the “High Court”: six of the nine judges belong to the conservative camp. Three were nominated by former US President Donald Trump, who hailed the ban as “God’s decision”.
10,000 protesters take to the streets
The majority of the American population sees it differently. Despite the verdict, two-thirds of Americans are in favor of preserving abortion rights, according to polls. Tens of thousands took to the streets these days to protest the decision. The current president, Joe Biden, speaks of a “painful” and “devastating” sentence.
Zadic: ‘It makes me angry’
But even in this country, the new ban leaves no one indifferent. Justice Minister Alma Zadic tweeted that she was “angry” and spoke of a “civilization step backwards”. Others, especially the March for Life movement, welcome the verdict, saying that “a little person” dies with every abortion.
