A tragedy involving an elderly couple in Linz probably went unnoticed for several days. Now that the partners have been found dead, it is likely a case of murder and suicide. The exact cause must first be clarified by an autopsy.
Horrible discovery Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at a single-family home in Linz: the bodies of the owners were found in the garage. “First, the exact course of the crime must be reconstructed; an autopsy of the bodies has been ordered,” confirmed Florian Roitner from the Linz public prosecutor’s office, the police operation.
Prolonged suicide
The investigators of the State Criminal Investigation Department currently assume a so-called extended suicide. The 84-year-old from Linz is said to have murdered his 91-year-old wife before taking his own life with a weapon. The background to the crime was probably an illness of at least one of the spouses.
Doubts must be excluded
The autopsy should also clarify when the crime took place. According to initial reports, it was not clear at first glance how long the couple had been dead before they were found. It could have gone unnoticed for days.
“We do not believe that another person was involved,” said District Attorney Roitner. The autopsy is intended to rule out any doubts and clarify the course of events.
