Six cats killed – over 300,000 euros in damage after fire in company

Investigations are in full swing after a serious fire in a company in Lackendorf, Oberpullendorf district in Lower Austria. The outcome of the major operation: A firefighter had to go to the clinic. A dog was rescued from the building. However, six cats did not survive due to toxic fumes.

Shortly before noon on Friday, a fire broke out in an industrial building on Föhrenweg in Lackendorf. The flames quickly spread across the suspended ceiling and spread to the roof structure.

Fire discovered quickly
A passing witness raised the alarm. Nine fire brigades with 130 members and 24 emergency vehicles responded. District fire chief Martin Reidl was on scene.

A patient is being cared for
The volunteers had to use heavy respiratory protection. Shortly after 2 p.m. it was announced that the “fire was out.” A member of the Lackendorf fire brigade was taken by paramedics from the Samaritan Association to the clinic in Oberpullendorf with suspected smoke inhalation.

Six cats inside the business died from deadly smoke. One dog was rescued.

To determine the cause of the fire, the police searched the scene of the accident with their assistance dog “Wendy”. Forensic detectives continued the investigation on Saturday.

For the time being, one thing is certain: the inventory stored in the eastern part of the company premises, where the fire broke out, has been completely destroyed. The walls and roof of the hall were also destroyed by flames. The damage is estimated at at least 300,000 euros.
