There have been and continue to be warnings about them like a prayer wheel: we are talking about unscrupulous fraudsters who pose on the phone as police officers, judicial officers or lawyers and who literally want to take money from the pockets of their chosen victims with hair-raising lies. On Thursday, an 89-year-old woman from Innsbruck fell for this scam. The perpetrators managed to steal more than 10,000 euros.
An alleged lawyer called the 89-year-old several times on the landline on Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. According to the story, her daughter caused a fatal traffic accident and now has to post bail to protect her child from jail.
Give money and jewelry to whoever collects it
During the so-called ‘shock calls’, the unknown man asked about the Tyrolean woman’s financial circumstances and promised to send a ‘collector’ to her after she agreed to the transfer. “The woman then prepared cash and jewelry and some time later handed it over to a man between 40 and 45 years old,” police said. The 89-year-old is now poorer with a lower five-figure euro.
