Results and reactions from the first round of the French parliamentary elections of June 30

Date:

Le Pen calls for “an absolute majority” to “restore national unity and harmony.” Mélenchon confirms that the New Popular Front (NFP) is the only alternative to the far right and predicts a second round of “exceptional intensity,” and Macrón calls for “great democratic concentration.”

Marine Le Penleader of the extreme right National Group (RN) who according to all research –in the absence of official data– ha cattle prominently the first round of the French elections, has asked for an “absolute majority” for the second round on July 7, leaving French President Emmanuel Macron with no choice but to appoint his leader, Jordan Bardella, as prime minister.

“Nothing is won in advance. The second round will be decisive to prevent the country from falling into the hands of the Nupes (left-wing coalition now called the New Popular Front), which is extremely left-wing and has violent tendencies,” he warned.

“An absolute majority in Bardella,” Le Pen emphasized, “will contribute to the ‘restoration of national unity and harmony.’ He emphasized that “no Frenchman will lose his rights.” If the situation allows, new ones will be created,” he promised.

Exactly his own Jordan BardellaPrime Minister candidate of the far-right National Rally (RN), has declared his victory in the first round “indisputable” and asked voters to continue mobilizing for the second round on July 7.

He has pointed out the left as the enemy to be defeated in the second round and has promised that if he is appointed prime minister, he will live with the president, Emmanuel Macron, in a “respectful manner”, although he is “unyielding” in the political principles of his party, the RN.

He has expressed the wish that the second round can take place in “a climate of calm”, winking at the female electorate by saying in his call “French men and women”.

“I ask that you join us so that national unity can win against those who try to suppress our values. My idea is to be the daily prime minister and restore our immigration policy,” he stressed.

For the coming July 7, “the choice is clear,” Bardella continued, and it will be between the “alliance of the worst, which will lead to ruin, or the national union that will restore security and defend jobs.”

The New Popular Front in second place

The leader of France Insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, declared this Sunday that the left-wing union of the New Popular Front (NFP) is the only alternative to the far right, but at the same time announced that he will run in the second round of the parliamentary elections, on July 7, the candidates will withdraw from where they came in third place.

“Under all circumstances, our slogan is clear: not one more vote for the RN (French acronym for National Rally, Marine Le Pen’s party), not one more seat for the RN,” he declared after knowing the first estimates give the victory for the far right with a third of the votes and the NFP in second place, with about 28% of the votes.

Therefore, although in most constituencies the second round on July 7 will be a two-way duel, usually between the NFP and the RN, with three candidates advancing to the next round, the left bloc will withdraw its own vote to avoid dividing the vote against the far right.

For Mélenchon, the July 7 ballot box meeting will be of “exceptional intensity” and he appreciated the strong mobilization this Sunday.

“It’s not just about voting against it, it’s not just about creating a barrier, it’s about voting for a different future that is respectful of all people,” he emphasized.

Macron calls for a “great democratic meeting”

In a statement with an institutional tone, French President Emmanuel Macron, whose party has clearly suffered a major setback, called for a “great democratic gathering” to prevent the far-right National Rally from winning the second round.

He has called for “a large, clearly democratic and republican demonstration” against Marine Le Pen’s party.

Macron also believes that the vote “demonstrates the importance of this vote for all our compatriots and the desire to clarify the political situation. Their democratic elections oblige us,” he stressed.
