Only after twelve years was one of the most spectacular mysteries in Viennese criminal history solved: the murder of twenty-year-old saleswoman Alexandra Schriefl. In ‘Krone’ Crime, Ernst Geiger – then head of the investigation – remembers the case.
The night of October 26, 1988 is bitterly cold; the temperature has dropped almost to freezing for the first time this year. Still, many people in Vienna are out and about and use the evening before the national holiday for a longer outing. The discotheque “Azzuro” in Vienna-Favoriten is also very busy.
It is the area south of the distribution circle and the settlement of Per-Albin-Hansson; where the sea of houses is interrupted by greenery and the buildings slowly change into wheat fields.
A cheerful group of ladies are having a great time in the restaurant, which no longer exists. Also there: Alexandra Schriefl, a 20-year-old saleswoman. At 1.80 meters tall, Alex, as she is called by everyone, is a striking appearance: beautiful and very tall.
