The wave of gastroenteritis in Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore of Lake Garda continues to cause problems. More than a thousand cases have now been reported. Those affected complained of nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. The population is still being supplied with bottled water; additional water analysis results are still pending.
Preliminary tests on the latest water samples from Torri del Benaco’s water network have yielded negative results, the company “Azienda Gardesana Servizi” (AGS), which is responsible for managing the community’s water pipes, announced on Monday. However, the resort did not give the all-clear.
The chlorination in the network increased
In water samples taken last Friday and examined in an institute in Brescia, norovirus was found in some samples. As a result, AGS has increased chlorination in the network.
On Sunday, new samples were taken at various points in the water network of Torri del Benaco for the detection of viruses, all of which gave negative results, ruling out the presence of norovirus and enterovirus.
However, the national investigation will continue in the coming days, both in Torri del Benaco and in neighbouring municipalities, health authorities said.
