The Institutional Relations team of Solarium In the Basque Country, it has started a new round of contacts with several municipal authorities with the idea of adapting the route of its high-voltage line to “mitigate the problems”, the company said in a statement.

The company is planning three photovoltaic power plants in Álava, the electricity produced from which will be transmitted to Zierbena via a high-voltage line of more than 100 kilometres.

Solaria explained that this route is the result of the “restrictions” imposed by the grid operator, which “force Solaria to evacuate its energy in Bizkaia”. Solaria insisted that the evacuation point is a technical requirement from the grid operator and that “there is no substation with the capacity to connect in Álava.”

Furthermore, he stated that the layout took into account “the technical and ecological constraints of the area”, with the aim of “minimising the visual impact”.

In any case, Solaria has indicated that the line is subject to an environmental assessment that will determine its final layout and establish “preventive, corrective and compensatory” measures.

Finally, he recalled that he had been making the project known for the past year and a half to the different areas where the factories are located and where the line runs, as well as to the different administrations. In this sense, he stressed that the consultation round continues to minimize “the effects of the layout of the line”.

The project has led to rejection by the municipalities of Alava and Biscay through which the route passes, as well as criticism from environmental groups. The deadline for filing accusations against the Solaria solar parks in Alava ends on July 10.
