Search Failed – Caught by Current: Man Wanted to Swim in the Inn

Date:

Tragic scenes unfolded in the Tyrolean Unterland on Sunday afternoon: A man may have completely underestimated the inn’s current and wanted to swim in the floods near Kundl (Kufstein district). The bodies of water grabbed him and dragged him along. Since then, there has been no trace of the Syrian.

The asylum seeker spent the afternoon with his family on the banks of the Inn. At around 5:15 pm, his brother-in-law and brother got into the water, but he decided to go for a swim. “The inn currently carries a lot of water and has a high flow rate,” said the police. This was the downfall of the not so good swimmer, who wore jeans: he was carried away and went under. His family called emergency services.

Family looking independently
Then a large-scale search began: water rescue, fire brigade, police and Red Cross searched the banks of the Inn and on the water for the missing person. A helicopter was also deployed. But in vain. “We searched everything between the site in Kundl and the Inn power plant in Kirchbichl, but we could not find the man,” police said at Krone’s request. The search on the water has since been discontinued. As you move closer to the Inn, the missing person’s family is also looking for themselves.

According to the police there is little hope: the Inn is currently only around 10 degrees warm, the Syrian is a bad swimmer. “He probably went down before,” the police fear.
