A 16-year-old fled from police in a car on a cycle path in Leibnitz on Wednesday at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The well-known youth had previously rebelled at the AMS and insulted employees. After the boy fled on foot into a cornfield, he was arrested.
A 16-year-old from South Styria kept the police on their toes on Wednesday: late in the morning, the police were called to the AMS Leibnitz because the boy was causing riots there and was behaving “extremely aggressively” towards the employees.
At 100 km/h on the cycle path
Before the officers arrived, the 16-year-old got into a car – without a driver’s license, of course – and sped away. The teenager started a dangerous chase with the police. He flew at much too high a speed from Leibnitz via Wagna to Landscha. There he drove his car over the Mur cycle path – at a speed of up to 100 km/h!
He endangered many passers-by, but fortunately he didn’t catch anyone. When the police set up a roadblock, the escape ended in a cornfield in Bachsdorf.
Police car damaged
But the 16-year-old didn’t give up: he first tried to drive through the field, but reversed and crashed into the front of a police car. He then got out and fled on foot.
A major manhunt began with police drones and guide dogs. The boy was eventually captured and arrested around 2 p.m.
It turned out that the man was already known to the authorities. The car was bought legally, but the (German) license plates were stolen. The Leibnitzer is accused of several crimes.
