A dispute between two brothers in the hinterland of the southern Italian city of Naples culminated in a brutal crime on Wednesday evening: According to police reports, a 59-year-old stabbed and then beheaded his 65-year-old brother in the municipality of Pannarano.
The man then allegedly threw the severed head from the balcony onto the street. Several residents saw the scene and alerted the police.
The suspected perpetrator was arrested and questioned shortly afterwards. It is unclear why the dispute arose. According to initial information from investigators, the two brothers had been living together under one roof in the parental home for some time. That is where the argument broke out on Wednesday evening around 10 p.m.
Body mutilated
After the crime, the younger brother called the police on his own initiative. He initially barricaded himself in the house, but then voluntarily opened the door for the officers. The police were presented with a gruesome picture: the body of the 65-year-old was mutilated by numerous stab wounds and the head was missing. The suspected perpetrator has since been arrested.
According to reports in the Italian media, there have been several quarrels between the brothers in the past. The 65-year-old, a widower, returned to his homeland some time ago after his retirement from the capital Rome.
