Police in Vienna-Währing were alerted on Wednesday afternoon after several employees discovered an abandoned sports bag containing a loaded pistol during a fundraising event.
At around 3:30 p.m., employees noticed a half-opened sports bag in front of a house on Wallrissstrasse. They immediately alerted police after finding a weapon inside.
Owner forgot bag
When officers arrived, they unloaded the abandoned gun and found the owner. In the bag, in addition to the gun, was a silencer and extra magazines. The 69-year-old owner did not realize that he had simply forgotten his bag while loading his car on the street.
Weapons prohibited
The 69-year-old’s gun ownership card was confiscated, the weapon, ammunition and silencer were confiscated and a temporary gun ban was imposed. A report has also been filed against the man on suspicion of violating the gun law.
