4-year entry ban – Terrorism planned in St. Stephen’s Cathedral: woman to be deported

Date:

Around Christmas, a radical Islamist group is said to have planned attacks in Europe, including on St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Now the first suspect is being deported from Austria and is being denied entry to the country.

The Tajik-Turkish woman was part of a group of four suspects who allegedly planned terrorist attacks on churches. Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral was also in their sights. Although the suspicion was too thin to file a corresponding charge, all four suspects were immediately taken into custody pending deportation. One man has already been deported.

Woman is deported to Turkey
On Thursday, it was decided in Linz that a woman would also be deported to Turkey, the “Krone” was confirmed by lawyer Andreas Schweitzer. The defendant will also be banned from entering Austria for four years. The authority had originally planned a ten-year entry ban, but this was significantly shortened during yesterday’s hearing. The woman’s children are already in Turkey with their grandmother, her husband is still in custody in Vienna.

The husband remains in custody
Her Tajik husband recently had his deportation postponed, the “Krone” reported. He claimed to belong to an opposition group that was banned in Tajikistan. He does not want to know about the attack plans or ISIS material on his mobile phone.

After six hours of negotiations, the complaint against the deportation was finally accepted, with the formal justification that a decision had to be made on the asylum application first. This is based on a ruling by the administrative court from 2016. If his asylum application is rejected – which is to be expected – he will not be deported to Turkey, to his family, but to Tajikistan. Germany has already deported the alleged accomplice from there, who was temporarily extradited to Vienna and was in custody there.
