A Brazilian paraglider has suffered a fatal accident on Pakistan’s famous K2, police said Friday that the 55-year-old had been part of an expedition to the base camp of the world’s second-highest mountain.
Six expedition members from France, the US, Switzerland and Bulgaria set out on foot, while the Brazilian wanted to complete part of the journey by paragliding. But shortly after take-off, it “tore apart” and the man fell, a police spokesman said.
Body was recovered
The man’s body will now be returned to Brazil after consultation with his family. In recent weeks, three mountaineers from Japan have already died in two accidents in the region.
Five of the fourteen eight-thousanders are located in northern Pakistan, including K2, the second highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest. The impressive mountain range attracts tourists from all over the world.
