Neighbors worried – transit zone empty! Sinti & Roma now camping here

Date:

When the transit area in Pichling was already full during the high summer season, groups of Sinti and Roma sought out new places in the area. Now there are suddenly twenty teams camping in Traun – even though there is not a single caravan on the B1.

Strange! In recent years, there has always been a lot of activity at the transit point for Sinti and Roma on the B1 in Pichling at the beginning of July. This year, it was different: at the local inspection “Krone” on Friday morning, there was not a camper or caravan to be seen anywhere. The area is deserted, waiting for the next travellers. According to residents, the last visitors left about a week and a half ago. Before that, the place had always been well visited since 13 January. The fact that it is unusually quiet at the moment may also have something to do with the fact that – as reported – the financial police recently conducted an investigation in the area.

Thrown into the stadium in Traun
Quite unexpectedly, a group of almost twenty teams showed up at the stadium in Traun at the beginning of this week. When Deputy Mayor Karl-Heinz Koll was informed of this, he immediately sent someone there. “For whatever reason, these people only wanted to talk to me,” said Koll, who then left.

Group paid bail
“We had a good conversation. First of all: these are different people than those who come to us once a year in Traun. The people were friendly and spoke very good German. “In a week they want to leave again on Monday,” explains the mayor. What speaks for the group: According to Koll, a deposit has been paid, the garbage collection, the water and electricity are paid extra. We can only hope that, as is unfortunately always the case in Pichling, no washing machine lye ends up in the ground.

“We have no control, we are obligated”
According to the city manager of Traun, the residents’ concerns that this could happen with excrement from the tanks of the caravan toilets are certainly justified, but Koll reassures: “We are still looking into it,” he says: “We have no control, we are obliged to do so.”
