While refueling, two police officers were saved by lifesavers: Markus A. and Christoph M. from the Seewalchen motorway police were refueling their company car at the Mondsee petrol station when a passer-by called them for help with the words “Help, he can’t breathe”.
“We were standing at the gas station when a man excitedly asked us for help in English,” says Markus A. about the dramatic events that took place on Saturday evening at the highway rest area in Mondsee in Upper Austria. The two police officers immediately ran to a grassy embankment about 400 meters away, where a person lay motionless on the ground.
Rettender defibrillator
“The man was already completely blue and not breathing,” the police officer says. “A doctor who happened to be there and her husband were already with him and started resuscitation.” One of the officers immediately ran back to the company car and grabbed the defibrillator that was there.
Emergency doctor stabilized patient
“We took turns doing chest compressions and respiration and then continued with the Defi,” says Markus A. (27). The emergency doctor arrived after about ten minutes and was able to stabilize the Swiss. Officers found heart medication on the passenger seat of his car, indicating that the man had a heart condition.
Flew to the hospital
The rescue helicopter took the 66-year-old Swiss to Wels Hospital for further treatment. “According to the emergency doctor, it will take 72 hours to see if he will survive,” said the lifesaver.
