The sister (pictured above) of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has warned of unprecedented consequences and threatened a “terrible catastrophe” after military exercises by hostile neighbour South Korea on the border with North Korea.
Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Yong, accused the Seoul government of stoking tensions between the two countries after South Korea conducted live-fire drills in the country’s north — the first of their kind since the suspension of a 2018 deal that temporarily calmed military tensions on the border — along its land and sea borders with North Korea.
She described the South Korean military’s drills with live ammunition as “suicidal hysteria” and threatened unspecified military consequences in the event of further provocations. “The question is why the enemy launched such war exercises near the border, a suicidal hysteria for which he must suffer a terrible catastrophe,” Kim Yo Jong said in a statement.
If North Korea determines, according to its own criteria, that Seoul has violated its sovereignty and committed an act amounting to a declaration of war, “our armed forces will immediately carry out the tasks and duties assigned to them by the Constitution,” she said. South Korea’s Defense Ministry said independently that the exercises would go ahead as planned.
