Ion Izaguirre has extended his contract with French team Cofidis by one year, which he joined in 2022 from Astanathe French team announced this Monday on the first rest day of the Tour.
At 35 years old, The Basque rider has been one of the pillars of Cofidis, where he won a stage of the Tour de France last yearwho is now fighting for the tenth time.
“I am very happy to continue with the team. I am happy with their trust in me and I enjoy wearing this jersey every race,” said Izaguirre.
The Spanish rider said his dream is to “win the Tour again and make Cofidis famous” and he is ready to “give everything to achieve it in the coming days”.
Team director Cédric Vasseur reiterated his confidence that the Spaniard “will continue to show his talent in the near future.”
Izaguirre has already tried to achieve another victory in the French round, in the second stage between Florence and Rimini where he escaped with 125 kilometers.
The Basque has 18 professional victories, has participated in 27 classics and 17 grand tours, including 10 Tours de France including the current one.
Last year he achieved his second victory in the French round, in Belleville-en-Beaujolais, after what he achieved in 2016 in Morzine with the Movistar jersey.
