Turbulent scenes Saturday evening before the European Championship between the Netherlands and Turkey at the public viewing in the Tyrolean Landeck: After an unknown person in the crowd had lit a Bengal fire, the police officers who intervened were harassed, surrounded and sometimes even attacked. Two people were temporarily arrested.
Around 8:30 p.m., half an hour before the start of the match, a previously unknown person lit a Bengali fire during the public viewing. “When the police officers wanted to establish the identity of the man, a 22-year-old Austrian stood defensively between them and attacked the police officers to prevent the official act or the establishment of his identity,” the director reported on Monday.
The suspect was then arrested. But the 22-year-old apparently had no interest in that. “He tried to escape, but was arrested and taken to the Landeck police station, although numerous visitors to the public viewing walked around and insulted and harassed the police officers,” the investigators continued.
Another man arrested
One of these suspected troublemakers, a 39-year-old, was temporarily arrested for aggressive behavior. “He also tried to prevent this with violence, but that did not work.”
Mobile Phone Video Reviews
Both men have since been released and have turned themselves in to the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of attempted resistance to state power. In addition, further investigations are being conducted, in particular evaluations of mobile phone videos. More advertisements will follow.
