In Graz prison a prisoner (25) died from drugs and medicines

Date:

A prisoner (25) who was found dead last week in Graz-Karlau prison is apparently the Carinthian who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in early December 2023 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.

A spokesman for the Graz public prosecutor’s office confirmed a report in the Kleine Zeitung on Tuesday. There are no indications of violence or malice. According to the autopsy, the man died of drugs or drug poisoning.

The man was convicted on December 4 by the regional court in Leoben (although not yet legally binding) for strangling his ex-girlfriend (22) in Hohentauern, Upper Styria, in May 2023 and then causing a traffic accident with suicidal intentions.

In artificial deep sleep for weeks
The Carinthian lay in an artificial deep sleep for several weeks after his accident, during which he suffered serious head injuries. During the trial, the jury found him guilty unanimously. He accepted the verdict immediately.

The autopsy results are now available, a toxicology report is still pending, a spokesman for the Graz public prosecutor’s office said. This will probably take some time; the police investigation is already well advanced, it was said.
