After days of trial, the victim testified on Monday during the residential burglary trial in Graz. The 55-year-old was hit with a baseball bat at her daughter’s home in Eggersdorf near Graz and then stabbed after being tied to the sofa with zip ties and tape – in front of her granddaughter (3).
The two suspects (aged 44 and 50) had to appear in court for attempted murder.
The 55-year-old grandmother seemed incredibly composed. She had multiple scars on her back, stomach and head, and three of her ribs were broken. “I immediately thought they might do something to me because one of the two hadn’t worn a mask,” she described her memories.
Granddaughter started to cry
She described soberly how she was tied up by one of the perpetrators and knelt in front of the couch in the living room: “Then it suddenly became very quiet and then it started puffing, popping on my skull and I also got a left and the right one in it.” Her granddaughter, who was sitting right in front of her on the couch at the time, began to cry.
Then it was quiet again and “I was already thinking if that was it and if I could call the police with my mobile phone,” said the woman from Oberwart in Burgenland. But then she heard a sigh and felt a stab in her back.
Toddler talks about ‘bad men’ at home
The three-year-old granddaughter was unharmed physically, but not mentally, as her parents said. “She still dreams about it and tells about the bad men who hurt Grandma,” said the little one’s father – by the way, the brother-in-law of the 44-year-old suspect.
The verdict is expected Monday evening.
