In this context, they interviewed the general manager of AFM Clúster in Euskadi Irratia’s “Faktoria” programme, Xavier Ortueta Despite the difficulties, he has shown hope and confidence that, if things don’t go any further, the sector will end the year with some modest growth.

Xabier Ortueta has underlined the importance of the stock market: on the one hand because you can view the machines up close; on the other, because many companies are concentrated in a small area.

The cluster leader has recognized that the rising energy costs, the shortage of microchips, transport problems and the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine lead to management problems in companies. In any case: “Little by little we save things.” He has insisted that producers need to adapt to the current situation and get used to producing orders within agreed deadlines and costs.

Concerning the function, has caused a lack of people to work in the sector. As he said, for every 10 people who retire, 7 young people come in. Ortueta cites three reasons: on the one hand, the decline in the birth rate; on the other hand the problems of attracting young people to the sector and in this sense he believes that companies can do more through adequate communication; Finally, he pointed to the need to integrate women in the workshops.
