A serious accident occurred on a mountain pasture in Innervilgraten in East Tyrol on Tuesday morning. A farmer (68) was seriously injured in the accident. The man owes his quick rescue to an eagle-eyed witness who made the right combination on the other side of the valley.
Shortly after 10:00, the 68-year-old was working on a steep mountain pasture with a hand-operated hay tedder. The device was hanging from a fence at the edge of the pasture. That had fatal consequences.
This caused the farmer to lose control of the tedder and fall backwards across the field. The 68-year-old ended up under the vehicle.
Witness stood on the other side of the valley
From the other side of the valley, a 57-year-old noticed that suddenly nothing was moving in the farmer’s field and that the tedder had stopped far from the pasture. This seemed strange to the attentive observer. He informed the farmer’s wife, drove to the scene of the accident and found the seriously injured man under the equipment.
Thanks to the courageous actions of his neighbor, the 68-year-old was quickly rescued. He was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by emergency helicopter.
