Despite several burglaries in the Vorarlberg lowlands, a 17-year-old was only formally convicted. The reason for this: a previous sentence also includes crimes that are later revealed.
“The last hearing probably didn’t make much of an impression on you. I can only tell you that this is not the right way to go.” Already at the beginning of the hearing on Tuesday, the prosecutor sent warning words to the suspect.
Despite his age, the young man already has a lot on his plate: in early June, the teenager received a partial fine of 880 euros for burglary, half of which was suspended. In early January, he committed various crimes in Lochau and Bregenz as a so-called ‘contributor’ together with two other boys.
Old punishments cover new crimes
Because further crimes were proven during a mobile phone analysis, he was seen again in court and the next conviction was pronounced in the form of an additional sentence. But only formally. In the opinion of the judge, the sentence imposed at that time was sufficient to cover the crimes proven later. In concrete terms, this means that the suspect has once again received a conviction for burglary, but without noticeable consequences.
The judge’s short message to the offender, who has finally found an internship: “You still have to pay the 440 euros from the last conviction. That is more than your monthly salary.” The verdict is legally binding. In any case, the young person will soon face the next court case.
