Several motor boats caught fire on Saturday on Lake Zurich in Switzerland. A 10-year-old child was injured and the material damage amounted to several million euros. Two other people were injured.
In the afternoon, residents reported a fire on a boat on the shore of Lake Meilen, about 15 kilometers south of Zurich.
When the police arrived, several motor boats, the jetty and the boathouse were already on fire. Meter-high columns of smoke rose.
The fire brigade extinguished the fires and placed oil screens on the water to prevent pollution of the lake. The cause of the fire was unclear that evening.
The cantonal police said on Saturday: “The fire in Miles has been extinguished and the clean-up works (are) underway. Seestraße is expected to remain closed throughout the night in the area of the affected port.” According to preliminary investigations, “arson can be ruled out”.
