Rescue workers are at the scene of the crash, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu, searching for survivors, official Khimananda Bhusal said. At least 66 people were on the buses. Three passengers were able to escape.
There was a large-scale search
Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his displeasure over the accident on the online service X. He ordered a large-scale search by all authorities.
Serious road accidents are not uncommon in the Himalayan state. Many roads in the mountainous region are in poor condition. There is an increased risk during the monsoon season, as the intense rainfall causes landslides and flooding.
