Marine Le Pen’s party announced that it would file a motion of no confidence against any government “in which those of LFI or the Greens have ministerial responsibility.” LFI stands for La France Insoumise and is a left-wing populist party.
Earlier, the secretary general of the Rassemblement National (RN), Renaud Labaye, had again promised that under certain circumstances, motions of no confidence against a possible left-wing government would be waived. “As a matter of principle, we never table a motion of no confidence for the sake of a motion of no confidence. Everything will depend on the government, the general political discourse or the texts presented.”
The left alliance is leading the way
French President Emmanuel Macron called for early parliamentary elections after the success of right-wing populists in the European elections on June 9. Three political blocs failed to obtain an absolute majority, and their programs are hardly compatible with each other. The left-wing alliance New Popular Front won with about 190 MPs, followed by the government camp with about 160 MPs and the right-wing populists with about 140 seats.
Many people cannot be clearly assigned. Macron wants to leave the current government aside for the time being. He will probably accept the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on July 17.
