A woman was reported missing after a walk in Annaberg in the Lilienfeld district (Lower Austria). Heavy rain and thunderstorms hampered the search. She was not found suffering from hypothermia until three o’clock in the morning.
The Annaberg mountain rescue team went looking for a missing 64-year-old around midnight on Wednesday. The resident of the second house had not returned home after a walk.
The police, fire brigade and mountain rescue team went out to search and the rescue dog team was also alerted. Police and fire brigade searched the network of hiking trails in the Annaberg area, also using four sniffer dogs and a drone. The mountain rescue teams were on the lookout in the alpine area. Several forest roads were also searched by car and on foot for the missing person. Heavy rain and thunderstorms made the search more difficult and the temperature had also dropped.
Found injured and hypothermic
After hours of searching, the woman was finally found injured around 3 a.m. She slipped and fell over a dike, the Mitterbach mountain rescue service reports. The woman was already hypothermic due to her summer clothing. She received first aid from mountain paramedics and was then carried away on a stretcher. The Red Cross of St. Aegyd brought the injured person to the Lilienfeld Voralpenklinikum.
