The mountain rescuers were called out on Friday for two operations in the East Tyrolean mountains. In both cases, snowfields proved fatal for alpinists. The medical emergency helicopters were also needed.
The first accident happened around 10:15. A resident (53) wanted to hike in Virgen from the Bergerseehütte via the Lasörling Höhenweg to the Lasörlinghütte. “At an altitude of 2,745 meters above sea level he wanted to cross a snowfield and slipped despite having pulled on the Grödel,” the police said. The man then slipped about 30 meters and crashed into a stone.
The mountaineer briefly lost consciousness. When he came to, he started the rescue chain. The emergency helicopter “C7” flew the 53-year-old to the district hospital of Lienz.
Crashed in a gutter
The second accident happened shortly after 11:00. Three Germans were in St. Jakob on a hike that they had started from the Kasseler Hütte in South Tyrol. Their destination was the Parmhütte. On the climb of the Rosshornscharte the group had to cross a snowfield. A 30-year-old slipped and fell about 50 meters into a rocky gully.
The companions made the emergency call. The medical emergency helicopter “ARA3” rescued the alpinist with the winch. He was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck.
