A motorist who tried to evade police checkpoints in Vienna-Mariahilf on Saturday night was arrested after a chase and after he rammed a police car and injured several officers. A small amount of narcotics was found and confiscated from the man.
Officers from the Josefstadt city police command became aware of the man because he was honking repeatedly for no apparent reason. They asked him to get out and he drove away.
Pursuit with blue lights and tracking horn
He was chased with his blue lights and horn on, after which he accelerated his vehicle. He was finally stopped on Mariahilfer Straße. Despite repeated requests to leave the vehicle, the 51-year-old refused and again hit the gas pedal. Two officers who were outside their radio car had to jump aside to avoid being hit by the car.
