Trump assassination attempt – shooter identified as 20-year-old Republican

Date:

According to reports in the US media, the FBI of the Federal Police has identified the killer after the shooting of Donald Trump. The shooter apparently grew up near the rally and is said to be a registered Republican, but also had ties to the Democrats.

The shooter was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, NBC and CBS reported Sunday, citing the FBI. He was therefore a registered member of Trump’s Republican Party.

However, records show that his only known political donation of $15 in 2021 went to Act Blue, a group that supports Democratic candidates.

Watch out! There are already many fake news stories circulating about his identity. This fake is especially common:

“The investigation remains active and ongoing,” the FBI said. The shooter had no prior criminal record listed in Pennsylvania public records. The background to the crime is still unclear.

This video is supposed to show the shooter graduating from school:

Crooks is expected to graduate in 2022 from Bethel Park High School, which has about 1,400 students. This year, he received a $500 Star Award from the National Math and Science Initiative, the Tribune-Review in western Pennsylvania reported.

Trump barely survived
Trump said he was injured in the ear as a result of the shots. Authorities said one bystander was killed and two others were seriously injured in addition to the suspected shooter. A New York Times photographer apparently captured the moment a projectile whizzed past Trump’s ear.

The former US president has now landed in New Jersey, near New York. His campaign team published a video on X showing him exiting his plane.

The speech lasted only a few minutes
The attack occurred as Trump was beginning his speech at a campaign rally in the small town of Butler, Pennsylvania. After the shots were fired, Secret Service agents pulled the former president to the ground and eventually pulled him to safety. According to the Secret Service, the assailant fired multiple shots “from an elevated position” outside the meeting venue. The shooter was subsequently “neutralized.”

Pennsylvania State Police say the priority is to determine the perpetrator’s motive and quickly determine whether other people were involved. The investigation could take days, weeks or months.
