Erste Bank is currently experiencing massive disruptions to online banking and branches across Austria. This means that card payments are only possible to a limited extent for customers. Bank Austria also experienced a technical glitch in mid-November.
“Due to technical problems, George, our website and services in our branches are not available or are only available to a limited extent. Card payments and cash withdrawals are currently only possible to a limited extent. We are working hard on a solution,” Erste Bank explains on its website.
Problem not yet solved
It is not yet possible to predict how long the disruption will last. Customers will likely have to be patient at this time until the technical errors are resolved. It is currently unclear whether it was a hacker attack. We are working hard on the solution.
A similar case at Bank Austria
There was also a technical problem at Bank Austria last week. A retiree from Vienna transferred 5,000 euros from his savings account to his checking account via internet banking. Shortly afterwards, however, 5,000 euros were withdrawn from his savings account six times. The problems mainly occurred with internal transfers, i.e. from one account to another at Bank Austria.
