Following the assassination of Donald Trump, security forces found explosives and bomb-making materials in the assassin’s car, which was found near the crime scene, and in the home of the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks.
As the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported Sunday, citing unnamed sources, “explosive material” was discovered in the parked car. According to both outlets, the suspected killer used a weapon his father had purchased for the crime.
Former President Trump narrowly survived the shots fired at him by Crooks on Saturday, suffering only a minor injury to his ear. According to the Secret Service, the man was on the roof of a commercial building outside the meeting venue. Security forces said he was “neutralized.”
Shots with a semi-automatic rifle
In addition to the suspected attacker, who according to US media was armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, a bystander was also killed and two others were seriously injured, according to official information.
Several witnesses said they saw the gunman before the attack and alerted authorities. One Trump supporter said he saw the assailant before the attack on a building outside the event site.
Local police said they had “responded to a number of reports of suspicious activity,” but did not immediately provide further details.
