Devastating alpine accident on Sunday in the Tyrolean town of Ausserfern: a group of the German Alpine Club was hit by a rockfall in the Tannheimer Valley. One member – a 61-year-old woman – was seriously injured and had to be flown to hospital by helicopter.
The fatal incident took place around 2 p.m. in the municipality of Nesselwängle. The 61-year-old German was descending from the Köllenspitze towards Gimpelhaus with a group of the German Alpine Club.
Suddenly several stones came loose
It happened in the area below the so-called “shepherd”! Above the group, several rocks suddenly came loose. The 61-year-old alpinist was hit in the left forearm.
By helicopter to the hospital
“The woman suffered a cut and a fracture on her left side as a result of the falling rocks,” the police reported. Her companions made an emergency call. After initial treatment, the mountaineer was flown by emergency helicopter to the district hospital in Reutte.
