Three dead mountaineers and one missing person – that is the result of the weekend on Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. Two Italian mountaineers died after falling 200 meters on Mont Greuvetta on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. A third mountaineer was able to raise the alarm.
On the French side of Mont Blanc, a 34-year-old Parisian had an accident when he fell a few meters. The accident happened on the last part of the slope of Mettrier, not far from the border with Italy, Italian media reported.
The climber was not tied down. His friend called the emergency services. The body was recovered by a helicopter from the Chamonix rescue team.
Fell into a ravine, not found
A climber fell into the depths of the Mont Blanc massif, below the Gonella hut. The man fell into a ravine, but has not yet been rescued. There was initially no information about his origin.
Mont Blanc on the border between France and Italy is, according to current calculations, the highest mountain in the Alps at 4,805 metres. Both France and Italy have shares in the mountain, although the exact border has long been disputed.
