The United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkasadmitted on Monday that the assassination attempt on the former president and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trumpit was a security issue.
“When I say this can’t happen, we’re talking about a failure,” Mayorkas said in statements to CNN.
“We will conduct an independent investigation to analyze how it happened and why it happened, and based on the findings make recommendations to ensure it does not happen again,” he added.

For her part, the director of the secret service, Kimberly Cheatlehas said in a statement that they have been “implementing” since Saturday changes in safety equipment‘ from Trump ‘to ensure his continued protection during the convention and the remainder of the campaign.’
Trump was that shot in the ear at a rally on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, before the Secret Service killed the gunman, a 20-year-old man whose motives remain unknown.
The young man fired from a rooftop near the gathering, moments after several people alerted security services to his suspicious presence.
