Spectacular accident on Monday evening in Wildschönau in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein: an 82-year-old local man drove his car off a path and fell into a stream bed. The car overturned and the injured driver was trapped in the wreckage. A passer-by saw the car and immediately raised the alarm.
The serious accident took place around 7:40 p.m. in the Oberau district. According to police, the 82-year-old local man was driving through the valley on the Sonnberg public interest path when, for reasons that are still unclear, he went over the edge of the road near a sharp left-hand bend, just before a wooden bridge.
The steering wheel is stuck in the wreck
The car then fell about four meters over the dike into the creek bed. “The car ended up on its roof and the 82-year-old was trapped in the vehicle,” investigators say.
Injured man freed by firefighters
A motorist driving uphill eventually spotted the accident vehicle in the streambed and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. The pensioner had to be rescued from the wreck by the fire department.
After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the injured 82-year-old was taken to the district hospital in Kufstein. The car was a total loss.
