A closure of the U6 in Vienna caused a lot of inconvenience and chaos in the early morning traffic on Tuesday morning. Because there travel between Michelbeuern-AKH and Burggasse, Stadthalle is not possible. Why? At the Josefstädter Straße station a crane fell into the trackbed last night…
“Due to an operational disruption, service on the U6 line between Michelbeuern-AKH and Burggasse Stadthalle is not possible. You can also change to line 5, as there is more traffic,” reads the message in the metro stations. There are traffic jams at the stops and the crowds are getting bigger and bigger. Everyone wants to get to work or to their appointments.
Passengers must give ample priority
Wiener Linien also points out that buses should be used in addition to line 5. These would run between Michelbeuern-AKH and Westbahnhof. “If possible, avoid large areas,” it says.
The track construction crane had fallen onto the track bed
But what exactly is the reason for the closure that causes so much excitement in the morning? It is possible that a track construction crane fell into the track bed between Josefstädter Straße and Thaliastraße in the early morning hours (see photos).
The closure of U4 will last until September
In addition to the closure of the U6, the construction work on the U4 route is currently causing long commutes and little enthusiasm. There, the U4 is getting new tunnel supports between Schwedenplatz and Schottenring. The metro cannot run between Schwedenplatz and Schottenring until 1 September.
