July 15 was a black day in Lower Austria. As was recently reported, four road users lost their lives on the country’s roads that day. The summary of a sad series of tragedies.
It started on July 15 at 12:50: two men found a bicycle and later also the 45-year-old Hungarian rider of the bicycle at the crash barrier on Kosterbergstrasse in Neulengbach in the St. Pölten district. After calling the rescue team, they treated the motionless man and started resuscitation. But unfortunately in vain, because the 45-year-old died at the scene of the accident. The police rule out foul play; the man probably crashed into the banquet with his bicycle and then fell.
Woman freed from car in Krems
On the same day, at around 1:25 p.m., another tragic and ultimately fatal accident occurred in the municipality of Krems. A 78-year-old from the Krems district was driving from Melk towards Krems until, for unknown reasons, she crossed oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the car of a 71-year-old from the Melk district. The woman was trapped in the car and unconscious. A doctor who happened to be passing by gave the 78-year-old first aid, while other first aiders treated the seriously injured man. Despite a quick rescue by the fire brigade and immediate resuscitation, the emergency services lost the battle for the driver’s life. The 71-year-old was taken to Krems University Hospital by ambulance.
Motorcyclist fell
The next tragic accident followed around 15:10. A 78-year-old man from the Lilienfeld district was riding his motorcycle on the B18 in his residential area in the Hainfeld region. He was driving from Berndorf towards Traisen and fell for unknown reasons on the stretch, sustaining fatal injuries. The B18 was closed from 15:30 to 16:15.
The 22-year-old died in Breitenfurt near Vienna
On the same day, another tragedy occurred that cost the life of a 22-year-old motorist from the Mödling district. In the vicinity of Breitenfurt near Vienna, he was driving his BMW on the main road from Hochroterd towards Vienna when he suddenly left the road to the left and crashed head-on into a street lamp. Due to the violent impact, his vehicle ended up in the ditch on the right side of the road.
The 22-year-old was apparently not wearing a seat belt, but was trapped in his car. “Due to the serious injuries, it was decided to perform a crash rescue of the driver, so that resuscitation measures could be started immediately,” the fire department reports. This continued until the emergency doctor arrived and was transferred. Here too, the victim suffered such serious injuries that the emergency services could not win the fight for his life. The main road was closed to all traffic until 3 a.m.
